The other day my husband’s colleague looked up from her computer screen and announced this amazing nugget of botanic information. Being a cynic (and a reference editor) his upper lip curled disdainfully as his fingers leapt towards Google. And while his blood didn’t exactly boil, it certainly heated up a degree or two. Lo and behold, an internet search

brought quite a few hits confirming this intriguing, little-known fact about the fruit. And some of those hits were from apparently reputable sources. However, one lone soul had (very easily) disproved this pomegranate-y fact with a selection of empirical experiments and graphs  — that is, he'd taken the trouble to count 'em. (Doh)
